The algorithm is Conway's Game of Life. Every object in the frame is a glider, the smallest pattern that moves. They are set on courses that intersect, and within a very few generations all of them collide and the configuration destroys itself. Whoever knows the rules sees the wreck already; whoever does not sees an orderly field of small shapes. The image is the same.
