The program draws no shapes. Noise fields overlap and steer the parameters of dithering, the technique by which an eye reads continuous tone where only two states exist. Nothing in the image is grey. The tone is made by the eye that reads it. Where the fields reinforce or cancel, figures gather and disperse; a word surfaces and is gone. Come closer and the image dissolves into separate marks. The viewer's distance is a parameter of the work.

Print and painting

Unique print: graphic elements generated by the same algorithm, 50 × 60 cm
Acrylic on paper, mixed media, hand painted, 50 × 70 cm

Two objects hold one moment still. A single print, composing generated elements on one sheet, keeping the words that surfaced. A painting made by hand from one frame, as a plotter with poor tolerances would make it. Some masking tape stayed in the finished work. The code used randomness on purpose; here it comes from a body that cannot withhold it.

True false. One zero. White black. The minimal unit of information, an elementary difference. And the randomness, waves of bits crashing into each other, seemingly senseless, stochastic combinations. Flows of noise that meet, intersect, add, cancel or enhance each other, in an illusory chaos. But shreds of meaning break away, materialize and go on to construct new information. Because here it is the interaction that creates meaning. And it is the ability to shift the point of view that gives the power of creation.

As in the human experience of relating and learning, we alternate our perspective between micro versus macro, we become able to see simplicity as well as complexity at the same time. As with the human need to pursue connection and understanding, we are rewarded with the dopamine rush of the flash of insight, in unrepeatable instants. Apparently unrelated fragments coagulate into embryos of knowledge, in a process of creation and understanding of new symbols, words, and human dynamics. Where noise turns into eloquence, and randomness into understanding.
